Winter weather coming to ski country

| Blog | January 16, 2012

ski New England

Ski country will be getting some much needed white gold over the next 48 hours and extended forecast seem to indicate the dry trend may be changing to more of a normal New England weather pattern with more snow and some mixed precipitation on the horizon.  Most New England ski areas have only been able to open around 50% of the terrain so far this season. The drought has been nation wide as ski areas in California, Utah and Colorado have had below average snowfall to date.

NH Log cabin vacation rentals

| Blog, Guide | September 29, 2011

NH cabin rentals

Are you seeking a romantic getaway? A unique secluded honeymoon vacation cabin rental or a weekend getaway?  Do you want to get away to a secluded vacation cabin rental at a rustic NH White Mountain compound, bungalow, chalet or lodge in the woods?  If finding that special accommodation in New Hampshire’s White Mountains is your goal, then take a look at these White Mountain NH log cabins.  The page will provide you with a detailed listing of available properties.

A log cabin is a house built from logs.  It is a fairly simple type of log house.  A distinction should be drawn between the traditional meanings of log cabin and log house.   Historically most Log cabins were a simple one- or 1½-story structures, somewhat impermanent, and less finished or less architecturally sophisticated.  A log cabin was usually constructed with round rather than hewn, or hand-worked, logs, and often it was the first generation home building erected quickly for frontier shelter.

New England Ski Pass

| Guide | September 19, 2011

New England Pass

The New England Pass professes to offer the most terrain, the most snow and the most skiing days with its three resort ski pass.  With access to Sunday River, Loon Mountain and Sugarloaf with one season pass, the New England Pass may be the best season pass value for skiing in New England. It’s your ticket to an unlimited winter in the mountains – you choose where and when you want to ski or ride, and head straight to the lifts each day. Plus, New England Passes include great benefits like lodging deals, retail savings, and free or discounted lift ticket at Boyne Resorts’ western mountains.

The lowest rate deadline is set for October 10th 2011. After that prices go up.

I think the overall statement of offering the most terrain, most snow and most days is technically correct. All three mountains are great in their own way but I am not sure including Loon into the package is very practical. Sunday River and Sugarloaf are at least in the same state. Loon is 71 miles from Sunday River and 150 miles from Sugarloaf. It seams this package would be better if it included Saddleback or Shawnee Peak instead of Loon.

New leaf peeping app is way cool!

| Guide | September 19, 2011

VT foliage

The New England Autumn colors will soon be popping from maple to maple starting in the northern parts of Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. It’s always a bit of a guessing game of when you should take that leaf peeping drive and enjoy all of the fall colors. Like many things, technology is trying to make it easier for you. Yankee magazine has a foliage app for you.

Yankee Magazine’s new Leaf Peepr app, which is free and downloadable for iPhone and Droid phones, lets leaf peepers check color status by region or zip code, and also offers interactive elements like the ability to upload new reports and photos to YankeeFoliage.com’s fall foliage map.  There are driving tours for each of the New England states — Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont — as well as recommended routes for certain regions such as Moosehead Lake in Maine and Route 100 in Vermont.
