Swim and fish in summer, ski in winter, get away for a relaxing vacation any time of year in once of the most scenic parts of Vermont. Metcalf Pond is a small lake, shallow some distance from shore so safe for kids to swim. We furnish a rowboat, canoe, kayak, and/or paddleboat. The cottage is large–house-size, with all the comforts of home. For winter guests, it is only 13 miles from world-class skiing at Smugglers Notch. In exchange for that short drive, your lodging costs only a fraction of what you would pay right at the slopes. This is a rural area, quiet most of the year, but the area draws people from throughout the area on hot summer afternoons. Our lake frontage is shared with a neighboring cottage that we also own, but each cottage has its own separate dock.

Amenities

We provide for our guests a canoe, rowboat, kayak, and paddleboat. The full kitchen includes a dishwasher, plenty of counter and cupboard space, with separate dining area. Laundry facilities are located in a large downstairs bathroom. A small bathroom is upstairs, in a hall between two bedrooms. A two-person hot tub is outside, in back of the house. A glassed-in porch has a cozy wood-burning fireplace. This leads outside to a deck, with tables, chairs, charcoal grill, etc. The living room is warmed with a gas fireplace; a second heating unit kicks on during especially cold winter days. The yard is large, with plenty of play area, a swing set, and firepit for bonfires. There is also another firepit, with picnic table, on the lake frontage. The cottage is fully furnished, including all sheets and towels, cookware, dishes, etc. We even stock a modest amount of food in the fridge, suitable for breakfasts, so you won\'t have to pack a lot or shop for supplies when you first arrive.

Nearby Attractions

The immediate attractions are the lake (Metcalf Pond) and the nearby ski area, Smugglers Notch. Other attractions in the immediate rural area include a winery that gives tours, a corn maze, a riding stable, and roadways for scenic walks or drives. However, more cultural events are a short drive away. Burlington is about 30 miles from the cottage, and Montreal is close enough to make it convenient for a day trip. Many of our guests use the cottage as home base for drives to attractions throughout the area.
